Let's take a trip back in time, 7000 years, to discover the imposing megalithic constructions of the Aboboreira mountain?
In addition to the beautiful landscapes, this mountain range presents a vast collection of megalithic tombs and dolmens that allow us to learn about the rituals and customs of our ancestors.
Starting from the lush oak groves of Carvalho de Rei, we head towards the mountains and small mountain villages where cattle herding is the main occupation. Here, granite reigns supreme in enormous blocks of different shapes and forms, surrounded by gorse and heather.
We will also visit the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia, from where we will have wonderful views of the Douro River valley and the Montemuro mountain on the other bank.
It is in this area that we will find several very well-preserved megalithic dolmen complexes, such as those of Chã de Outeiro de Gregos or the Aboboreira dolmen.
We descend a little and, once more find oak forests that conceal a small irrigation channel that will take us back to Carvalho de Rei.
