Autumn in Corno do Bico

2026-11-01

In this magical season, we depart from the village of Túmio, in Paredes de Coura, to explore one of the most beautiful trails in the protected landscape of Corno de Bico. Autumn transforms the forest into a carpet of golden leaves, where each step reveals new colors, aromas, and secrets of nature.

Our moderately difficult route is ideal for those seeking a peaceful walk and immersed in the beauty of the mountains. Most of the trail follows forest roads, with gentle climbs and panoramic views of villages and distant mountains.

During the hike, we pass through oak, chestnut, and beech woods, where mushrooms begin to appear discreetly among the moss and fallen leaves. The search for fungi becomes an activity of discovery and contemplation, with time to observe, learn, and marvel at the region's mycological diversity. We reach the Corno de Bico viewpoint and the old forest watchtower, where the landscape opens up in all directions: from the Soajo Mountains to the Peneda Mountains, from the Lima Valley to the Arga Mountains. It's a moment to breathe deeply and feel the immensity of nature.

Halfway along the trail, we take a break for lunch in the middle of the forest, surrounded by Garranos and Barrosão cattle grazing peacefully among the trees. The silence is interrupted only by the sound of running water and, occasionally, the neigh of a horse in the distance — a reminder that we are in a wild and authentic territory.

In the final stretch, we enter a dense, enchanted forest, where the green of the moss, the yellow of the leaves, and the red of the mushrooms create a fairytale-like setting.

It is here that time seems to slow down, and each step becomes a sensory experience. This is a hike celebrating autumn, the forest, and fungi, dedicated to those who want to feel, observe, and connect with the purest side of nature.
