We started our route with a climb from the town of Manteigas to the Chapel of São Lourenço, the highest point of our walk. Along the way we will find some cultivation and grazing fields where the intense shades of green catch our eyes. Small chestnut forests that, at this stage of the year, are painted with yellow and orange, prepare our eyes for the explosions of color that we will find further ahead in the beech forest.
Once you reach the summit, it's time to catch your breath and contemplate the panoramic landscape that stretches from the Zêzere Glacier Valley to Spain. We begin the descent to enter São Lourenço Forest, planted at the beginning of the 20th century, where the beech trees guide us through a magical corridor of colors that transports us to fairy tales. We follow trails and agricultural paths that will take us to the village of Butters, still dazzled by the autumn colors of the beech forest.
