The Serra da Estrela mountain range has many corners of profound beauty, some better known and others a little more unknown. This route takes us to some of these places in the heart of this majestic mountain.
Starting from the covão da Ametade, we immediately face a huge challenge with the extremely technical climb to the top of the cântaro Gordo. Once here, we take in the views over the Zêzere valley and the beautiful, rugged central plateau of Estrela. Here, granite slabs and blocks of all shapes and forms reign, leaving little room for sparse vegetation.
We continue walking, always above 1,800 meters above sea level, passing several lagoons and natural ponds.
Suddenly we come across the hanging valley of Candeeira, a glacial valley that looks more like an enchanted valley where a small stream flows and forms a lake before forming a waterfall that only ends in the Zêzere. It is this valley that will guide us to the point where we started our walk.
