On this walk we will venture through the hidden valley of Ribeira das Cortes. With its source in the tops of Star Mountain, this river with crystal clear waters, has been carving the granites for millennia desiring to hide its secrets.
We begin to climb the left bank of the river, starting from the village of Cortes do Meio, but not before getting to know its church and its people.
Always with the rocky slopes of Star montain as a landscape, we find a way to progress towards the Penha Fundeira well and the Embude well.
We will find a narrow trail that will guide us down the river and that will take us to cross its riverbed several times.
We will have the opportunity to visit old mills, testimonies of times gone by when the Ribeira das Cortes provided the driving force to make flour, olive oil and "burel".
As soon as the valley widens a little, we have pasture fields where the bordaleira sheep feed peacefully and the people of these parts cultivate a little of their livelihood.
It is in this scenario that, almost without realizing it, we return to the village that saw us leave.
