Discovering Alto da Braganda

2025-11-01

Starting on Portela da Travanca, next to the old forest ranger's house, begins an immersive journey to Monte do Bico, where nature reveals itself in all its complexity. This trail is more than just a walk: it's an experience of deep connection with the forest and its mysteries.

As we move away from the forest road, narrower trails emerge, offering stunning views of the Lima River valley, with the Serra d'Arga looming on the horizon. The undergrowth gives way to hardwood forests, revealing the Corno de Bico oak forest, a true sanctuary for mycological biodiversity. At the Penedo do Rebolinho viewpoint, there will be time to admire the landscape before continuing towards Chã da Campela, passing through a lush, extensive forest. The trail is punctuated by granite boulders and elevated areas, where you can see the peaks of the serra da Peneda, such as Alto da Derrilheira, Outeiro Maior, and Alto da Pedrada.

During the trail, participants will be guided by someone who is deeply familiar with the rhythms of the forest and the world of fungi. They will share information about natural cycles, learn about the native vegetation, and explain the mushroom species we'll find in this ecosystem. It's an opportunity to observe, learn, and awaken our attention to details that usually go unnoticed. The return journey is through the forest that connects Mount Coroa to Chã da Campela, taking advantage of less-traveled trails that lead back to the starting point.

This is the ideal day for those seeking a sensory and educational experience in a natural environment of rare beauty, where the forest and fungi become protagonists of a living and fascinating story.
