Starting from the picturesque village of Ermelo, the path takes visitors through hills and valleys to the iconic waterfalls of the Olo River, where the river plunges 200 meters, creating one of the largest waterfalls in Portugal and shaping the ancient rocks with thousands of years.
The trail starts gently, winding between pine forests and cedar forests until reaching the viewpoint, the perfect point to admire the waterfalls and the deep river valley. The descent from the viewpoint takes us to the bank of the river Olo, where the waters form "piocas", small natural lagoons.
As the trail progresses along the slopes of Alvão it is common to see herds of goats and sheep grazing freely, a typical presence that is part of rural life in the mountain villages.
In the villages, the slate houses and thatched roofs tell stories of a well-preserved tradition, reflecting the way of life of the mountain people.
This trekk is a combination of exuberant nature and a strong cultural connection, providing an experience that combines natural beauty with the simplicity and authenticity of mountain life.
