Fafe's Mountain Villages

Let's combine two trails to create one of the most complete and immersive treks in the Fafe Mountains. A long, varied, and deeply rewarding route, perfect for those seeking a full day of nature, vibrant villages, and unforgettable landscapes.

We start from the village of Lagoa and descend the valley to the Abrunheiros stream, where the water flows between lush oak groves and silent meadows. We climb to the village of Aboim, with its traditional houses and the emblematic windmill, from where we will head to Figueiró do Monte. Here, the mountains open up in all directions: green slopes, impressive rock formations, and horizons that seem endless.

We continue through dense oak groves until we cross the Aboim stream and reach the village of Mós, one of the Villages of Portugal, now undergoing full restoration and with a breathtaking view over the Rossas Valley. The next climb takes us to the highest point of the route, at 796 meters altitude, with sublime panoramic views over the Gerês and Cabreira mountain ranges.

We descend along the historic Caminho das Pedras (Path of Stones), an ancient cobbled path flanked by moss-covered walls, which leads us back to Lagoa. It's a perfect end to a day that combines authentic villages, magical oak groves, deep valleys, and landscapes that open like windows to infinity.

This route is ideal in spring and autumn, when the mountains reveal their most vibrant colors and the temperatures make the hike even more pleasant. It's a moderate, accessible trail, but with moments that require just enough effort to make the end of the day taste even better.
