Marcelim Trails

At the headwaters of the Bestança River, this trail will lead us to discover the small valleys and streams that swell the flow of this famous river.

We start from the Marcelim nature observatory, a small park with views of the entire Bestança River valley from its source to its mouth at the Douro River. We begin a short descent to the charming Enxidró stream, which we cross to begin a gentle climb through oak trees and cobblestone paths.

Crossing a ridge area where granite blocks are the main features of the landscape, we walk towards the small village of Sanginhedo.

The villages here are small and peaceful, surrounded by verdant fields where terraces support the pasturelands of the occasional Arouquesa cow.

We arrive at Ladário Park, the perfect place for a lunch break amidst the leafy trees. It is in this forested area, crisscrossed by cobblestone paths and small wooden walkways, that many birds find shelter and a place to nest.

We began descending the slope using the small agricultural paths, preparing for the climb back to our starting point.
