We begin with a pleasant dinner to kick off our long weekend program. It’s a chance for us to get to know one another and share details about the days of adventure and discovery ahead.
On the first day, we will hike a route of approximately 15 kilometers to explore the Fraile Gorge. We will discover waterfalls, ancient bridges, farmlands, and sweeping landscapes. Throughout the day, we will be accompanied by the birdlife that defines Monfragüe Natural Park.
The second day is dedicated to walking along the banks of the Tagus River. We will follow the river for 10 kilometers and take in the Salto del Gitano—one of Monfragüe’s landmarks and a prime spot for observing griffon vultures. We will also visit Monfragüe Castle on this day.
Finally, we will take a shorter trail—fitting, given it is our day of departure—though it is no less beautiful. We will visit the village of Villarreal de San Carlos with its traditional houses, walk along forest paths, and, with any luck, spot some of the deer that roam freely in the area.
