The Monte Padrão and Valinhas trail takes us to explore the origin of the Leça river, with natural landscapes and historical remains. The walk begins through oak and cork oak forests, at the top of Padrão Mount, where we can admire a wide view over the valley. One of the main points of interest is Padrão Mount Fort, an old fortified town from the 9th century BC, with ruins of walls, moats and houses.
We continue towards the Fervença waterfalls, where the waterfalls, 100 meters high, form a scene of great beauty. However, last year's fire devastated much of the vegetation, leaving a landscape marked by destruction. Despite this, it is already possible to see signs of regeneration, with small plants or branches beginning to emerge among the ashes, bringing a sense of hope.
In addition to nature, the route also reveals mills and watermills, used in the past to grind cereals and cut wood, a testimony to the life and work of local communities.
This trail is a true dive into the history and nature of the region, between the beauty and the challenges it faces.
