Postman Trails

We'll start our journey in the village of Tebilhão, from where we'll climb up into the Freita mountain range, through hillsides full of carquejas, gorse and flowering heather that give this mountain range a palette of colours, until we reach the village of Cando, with its small schist houses on the slopes of the mountain.

Then it's a long descent along an extremely beautiful route, against the backdrop of the sharp landscapes of the Freita mountain range, its deep valleys and steep rocky walls, until we reach the old mining village of Rio de Frades. Here we'll visit a mining tunnel that reveals a small, magical waterfall.

It's time to get back on the postman's trail and follow the route used to deliver mail to Rio de Frades, Cabreiros and Tebilhão.

It's going to be a long, demanding climb that follows the banks of the River Frades, embellished by mountainous landscapes with traces of the mining operations that took place during the Second World War.
