We begin our journey in the village of Benfeita heading towards the Espinho river valley. We will follow a small path that follows a levada and gives access to the fertile terraces where there is still some agriculture.
We are then “presented” with the first oaks and chestnut trees framed between schist walls, reminiscent of the ancestral human presence in this valley.
We begin to climb through villages forgotten by time, finding beautiful natural corners of forest and river waters, almost always along narrow trails until we reach Fraga da Pena. This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Azor, falling from a height of 19 meters between beautiful cliffs that appear among oaks, chestnut trees and strawberry trees.
On the way back we will also find some more isolated villages and beautiful landscapes of mountains and valleys.
