Villages and Banks of the Ovelha River

Here, the star of the show is the Ovelha River, which accompanies us for much of the journey, revealing a new glimpse of beauty at every bend.

We set out from the parish seat of Várzea de Ovelha, passing through Aliviada and Folhada, and along the way we discover small villages, cultivated fields, and the vibrant natural landscape that shapes this region. Along the route, we encounter a natural gallery of riverside vegetation: chestnut trees, walnut trees, leafy oaks, pines, vineyards, and a diversity of flora that transforms every meter into an invitation to contemplation. The waterfalls and small tributaries of the Ovelha emerge as refreshing surprises, making the walk even more special.

The highlight comes when we catch sight of the Ponte do Arco, a medieval single-arch structure that spans the river with an elegance untouched by time. It is one of those places that make us stop, look, and feel as though we are walking through history.
