Wild Encounter in Gerês: Serra Amarela and Calcedónia

For 3 days, we will explore Gerês da Serra Amarela, Calcedónia and Campo do Gerês. On the first day, we will be welcomed at the charming Cerdeira Campsite. It will be time to set up the tents, prepare a tasty barbecue dinner, and gather the “tribe” for a relaxed briefing about the weekend.

After a night of rest with the mountains around us, on the second day we go to discover the Serra Amarela, which, according to Miguel Torga, “is one of the most perfect wildernesses in Portugal. Located between Gerês and Lindoso, its folds are wide, deep and solemn. Without chapels and without pilgrimages, wolves, wild boars and deer cross it.” We started on trail towards the dam and the old community village of Vilarinho da Furna. From here, we continue to the top, passing through several meadows, shelters, corrals, until Alto da Louriça. After contemplation, we headed towards Chã do Muro. We will pass through Casarotas, Chã do Salgueiral and Fojo do Lobo de Brufe. The descent continues to the Vilarinho da Furna dam.

On the third day, we will go to Fenda da Calcedónia, which is a famous place in Serra do Gerês, known for its impressive panoramic views. From the top of the Calcedónia rocks, it is possible to admire the Caldo river valley, the Gerês mountain range, Pé de Cabril, Louriça High, Mount of Santa Isabel, the village of Covide, as well as other stunning landscapes. We ended with a picnic in a meadow next to Rodas stream.
