St. James Way - Finisterra - Santiago

2026-10-09

From October 9 to 15, we return to the iconic Camino de Santiago.

This year, we will walk from Finisterre to Santiago de Compostela, reversing the traditional route but allowing our “pilgrimage” to end at the Cathedral of Santiago.
Considered since ancient times as the “end of the earth,” Finisterre will be the starting point of this journey, covering approximately 122 km through Muxía, culminating in Santiago de Compostela.

Day 1
Friday, the 9th, we’ll travel from Santiago de Compostela to Finisterre, where we’ll spend the night and take the opportunity to explore this charming town.

Day 2
On the first day of hiking, we’ll follow the famous Costa da Morte closely. We’ll leave the small village of Finisterre behind and head toward the lighthouse that marks the “end of the world.” A day where the sound of the sea will contrast with the rural charm of the few villages we’ll pass through.

Distance: 21.5 km; Elevation gain: 600 m; Difficulty: 3

Day 3
The day will be spent transitioning from the coastal route to the inland terrain. But before we venture into the more rural and forested section, we’ll visit Muxía, a coastal town known for its beaches and historical monuments.

Distance: 26 km; Elevation gain: 750 m; Difficulty: 3

Day 4
We continue our pilgrimage, this time to the town of Lago. The route takes us through Olveiroa and marks the halfway point of the journey, where we can really feel we’re getting closer to our destination.

Distance: 27.5 km; Elevation gain: 800 m; Difficulty: 3

Day 5
This stage features one of the most beautiful sections of the route, with an enchanted forest of vibrant green. Negreira will be our destination—a town of particular significance on this route, marked by its history and cultural identity.

Distance: 26.5 km; Elevation gain: 700 m; Difficulty: 3

Day 6
On the final day, with Santiago already on our minds, the route takes us through points of interest, such as Ponte Maceira. After a brief climb with the Cathedral in sight, we reach our destination.

Distance: 20.5 km; Elevation gain: 500 m; Difficulty: 3

Day 7
On Thursday, the 15th, we have the morning to visit and get to know the city of Santiago de Compostela a little better. After lunch, it’s time to return to Portugal, surely with hearts full and souls renewed.
