How do I know if I am fit enough to do the hike?
One of the main factors to consider when signing up for a hike is its degree of difficulty. The classification is based on the distance to be covered, elevation gain, type of terrain, and time of year.
Below is a brief description of each level:
Difficulty 1 - Accessible to everyone, even those who are not particularly fit. The terrain will tend to be flat and relatively smooth, with no significant total elevation gain.
Difficulty 2 - Accessible to all healthy people who are accustomed to physical activity. There may be higher total elevation gains, but without very steep or prolonged ascents or descents. The terrain may be a little more rugged, but without significant technical difficulty.
Difficulty 3 - Previous hiking experience and good physical condition are required. Along a route with this level of difficulty, there may be steep and sometimes long climbs. The length of the activity will also be greater, with more uneven and technical terrain.
Difficulty 4 - This will require excellent physical and mental condition and is recommended for people who exercise regularly. These routes will always have more complicated sections, with significant accumulated elevation gains and more technical and uneven terrain, such as ascents or descents with loose rocks.
Difficulty 5 - Recommended for people with extensive experience and excellent physical and mental condition. Physical endurance combined with the will to overcome obstacles may be the key to participating in activities of this level of difficulty. The terrain will always be quite technical, with very steep ascents and descents, often of considerable length. The distance and duration will also be very high, requiring a constant and fairly fast pace.
